RESEARCH GRANTS AND FELLOWSHIPS:
Research Fellowships from the ERS:
Short term (1-3 months) Research Training Fellowships are established to enable young scientists and clinicians to visit a Host Unit in a European country other than the candidate’s own, to learn a research technique not available in the Home Unit. Awarded twice a year.
Application Deadlines are 1st April 2015 and 1st October 2015

There are several other opportunities to apply for Research Fellowships for members of the ERS, including Long Term Research Fellowships designed to enable investigators and clinicians in the early stages of their career to carry out basic, translational or clinical research projects and to acquire and apply advanced research procedures and techniques not available in their Home Unit (Closing Date: 31 January 2015), ERS/CTS (Canadian Lung Association) joint fellowships allowing one awardee from Canada to train in Europe and one awardee from Europe to train in Canada, ERS/SEPAR joint fellowship, ERS PAH fellowship and ERS/EMBO joint fellowship created to build capacity and expertise in the area of respiratory medicine/science through 12-month intra-European funding opportunity promoting research in the field of molecular biology with the aim to bring clinicians into basic science.

Research Grants from the BMA:
H C Roscoe – £50,000 To promote research into the elimination of the common cold and/or other viral diseases of the human respiratory system. Applicants must be members of the BMA or research scientists working with a member of the BMA.

The James Trust – £55,000 To assist research into asthma. Applicants must be registered medical practitioners in the UK and a member of the BMA.
The Gilead UK and Ireland Fellowship Programme:
Grants are also awarded to projects in the field of invasive fungal disease and cystic fibrosis
The aim of the programme is to generate and promote best practice in the delivery of patient-centred care through innovative and reproducible models in the following four areas – HIV, invasive fungal disease (IFD), chronic hepatitis B (cHBV) and cystic fibrosis (CF). click here
The Scadding-Morriston Davies Joint Fellowship:
This supports visits by medical graduates working in the UK to medical centres in the UK or abroad for the purpose of undertaking studies related to respiratory medicine. Applicants are invited from medical graduates practicing in the UK, including Consultants. Applications including details of the centre to be visited and the work to be undertaken and including a CV should be sent to email@example.com by 31st January 2015

British Association for Lung Research
Promotes interest and encourages studies in experimental research, related to the elucidation of normal lung function and the mechanisms of lung disease and the exchange of materials and techniques between laboratories as a means of standardisation in appropriate areas of research.
